Skype Unveils New ‘Meet Now’ Feature, Allows Quick and Free Video Conference Calls

During this ongoing lockdown all around the world, video conferencing apps like Zoom and Houseparty have gained sudden popularity. Among both of these,  Zoom has quickly become the top downloaded app in the app stores during this pandemic lockdown times. Zoom the video conferencing app offers 40 minutes of free conference calls with up to 100 people. During this lockdown, almost everyone is working from home and lots of people are using this tool to stay in touch with the companies and relatives to remain in touch with each other.

Now to compete with the likes of Zoom Skype has introduced a new feature ” Meet Now” which is quick and easy to do the video calling conferences either with your employees, relatives or friends.

You then share that link with participants to enjoy unlimited meetings via Skype. According to Microsoft, which owns Skype, your meeting link does not expire and can be used at any time.

A person can start a video-conference call from their Skype account and clock on the Meet Now button to generate a meeting link, then he or she has to share the link with others. Other users can click on the same link shared by you and join the meeting through the Skype app. Skype allows up to 50 participants to join the video conferencing call. Those who are joining the video conferencing call do not need a skype account to join the conferencing. The person can still join the meeting through Skype’s web platform.

“Introducing a simple, hassle-free way to connect with the important people in your life on #Skype, no sign-ups or downloads required,” Skype tweeted from its official account.

“Meet Now in Skype allows you to easily set up a collaboration space and invite both Skype contacts and friends or family who are not on Skype. Participants can then easily join meetings whether they have an account or not,” Skype wrote in an official blog post.

With the newly introduced feature “Meet Now” from Microsoft owned Skype users can also you can also share your screen at any time, which makes it easier to collaborate through the video conferencing call with your colleagues, officer workers and share presentations with a group of participants. Skype can store the recording for up to 30 days. if any user doesn’t want to show the background he or she can blur it before joining the conference.
