Soon you will be able to use In-display fingerprint sensor on a Redmi Smartphone as according to Redmi General Manager, Lu Weibing The R&D team of Redmi has successfully implemented in-display fingerprint sensor on LCD displays in an efforts to make the technology available to more number of people. At present, In-display fingerprint sensors are used in Amoled Display and LCD screen mobile phones only use physical fingerprint sensor either on the back or the side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
Lu Weibing has posted a very short video of the fingerprint sensor in action on a LCD panel on an unknown phone.
Weibing in a statement explains that,
“use of infrared high-transmittance film material greatly improves the transmittance of infrared light that could not pass through the screen. The infrared transmitter at the bottom of the screen emits infrared light. After this fingerprint is reflected, it penetrates the screen and shines on the fingerprint sensor to complete the fingerprint verifications.”
this problem, realizing screen fingerprints on LCD screens and having mass productivity. The innovative use of infrared high-transmittance film material greatly improves the transmittance of infrared light that could not pass through the screen,” he further wrote
But unfortunately Weibing neither provide any timeline when and where they will bring this technology first nor mentioned how expensive the technology will be.
But we can expect the technology will most probably arrive in the budget smartphone category as it’s the Redmi brand behind the project, which is famous for making good budget phones.
One thing is for sure the technology will be arriving to the samrohones very soon and we can see this coming to India as well.
